AIS Transceivers

See and be seen!

The use of the AIS transponder has increased significantly in recent years, partly due to the lower purchase costs and the safety benefits. Many users now appreciate the convenience. A transponder is ideal, especially on open water and at busy intersections. You can see the course, speed and even the ship's name of all ships around you. This is essential data to adjust your course or speed for a safe passage. With the ship's name visible on your screen, calling other ships is very easy.

The benefits of AIS Transceiver

The safety that the transponder offers is its greatest added value: everyone around you can see you too. This is a reassuring thought, for example when crossing to the UK or crossing the Maas estuary.

Another practical function of the AIS transponder is the calculation of the CPA (Closest Point of Approach) and the TCPA (Time to Closest Point of Approach). These indicate respectively where and when two vessels are approaching each other the closest.

AIS Transceivers are available in 2 or 5 watts. The latter has the SODTMA technology on board, which means that there is always a time slot reserved for sending and receiving. Any delay is kept to a minimum. Given the explosive growth in the use of AIS, we advise you to definitely consider the 5 watt.

GPS antenna

The AIS transponder, unlike a AIS receiver, also a GPS antenna that is needed to transmit your position in the AIS signal. Depending on the type and construction material of your boat, this antenna can be internal or external.

AIS antenna

The position of the AIS antenna is crucial for your transmission range. Take this into account during installation and make the right choice. For the best result, we recommend using your own antenna for your transponder. An AIS/VHF splitter, on the other hand, offers the advantage of easy installation.

Basic certificate for maritime radio required

A basic certificate for marine radio is required for the use of AIS transponders. Programming your MMSI and ship name, among other things, into your new transponder is a service we offer.
